Rafael Devers smashed his first home run as a San Fransisco Giant on Saturday, likely his first of many with the franchise that traded for him less than a week prior.

As if that pain wasn’t still fresh for Red Sox fans, Devers added salt into those wounds by recording the two-run shot against his former ball club.

Boston blanked Devers in the first matchup against their former star on Friday, holding him to 0-5 at the plate in a 7-5 win in San Fransisco. Devers didn’t suffer the same fate on Saturday. He got going early, launching the home run in the bottom of the third inning and extending the Giants lead to 3-0. A no-doubter for the reliable slugger.

Ironically, the sole Red Sox fan in a sea of Giants jerseys was the man to catch the home run ball.

Devers became the 12th player in MLB history to hit a home run for one team, and then hit a home run against his former team within one week.

The Red Sox-Devers saga that began in the offseason lingered through the first two-plus months of 2025 before Boston ultimately decided to move on from the man who once was tabbed to be the face of the franchise.

In the days following his departure, Devers noted he was just looking for a fresh start with his new club.

“[I’m not] here to talk about the past,” Devers told reporters on Friday (via MassLive’s Sean McAdam). “I feel like I put up good numbers over there [in Boston]. I always gave my 100 percent.”

Devers did note that it was “kind of strange to see them so soon,” referencing his dramatic exit on Sunday night followed by a series against Boston the following weekend.

After Sunday, Devers can leave the Red Sox in the past. But for now, his former club still represents the present. And if his expression was any indicator, Devers was pumped to take his former teammate deep, closing one chapter of his career and entering the next.
