Megan Rapinoe is a big fan of Boston Legacy FC’s Swan: After Boston’s NWSL expansion team initially launched in late 2024 as “BOS Nation FC” with a controversial marketing campaign that was widely panned by fans and players, ownership hit the reset button almost immediately.

Several months later, the team has successfully relaunched as Boston Legacy FC, recently unveiling a team crest featuring an eight-feathered swan. Despite the troubled start, it appears that the decision to make a second attempt at a name and brand has worked out.

One of the highest-profile examples of the rebrand paying off was a recent endorsement from former U.S. women’s national team star and two-time World Cup winner Megan Rapinoe. Speaking on her podcast, “A Touch More with Sue Bird & Megan Rapinoe,” the 2019 Ballon d’Or Féminin winner shared her enthusiastic reaction to the Boston’s revised approach.

“I love it,” said Rapinoe. “You know what? Shoutout to the Boston NWSL team for actually just like onboarding the very justified criticism for what was a terrible name and a terrible rollout. They just took it on the chin and came back with something that was so much better.”

Regarding the swan crest, Rapinoe was even more upbeat.

“I love the swan. The swan looks b***** and I love it,” she joked. “It’s like, ‘Don’t come over here, I will snap that bread out of your fingers.’ The swan looks like it’s chasing a child down the Charles, like ‘get out of my house.’ That’s the kind of energy I like. The colors are great. The green is just so good.

“It’s aggressive and yet elegant. I think it fits the team so much more.”

Boston is yet to formally name a head coach (though reports point to Benfica’s Filipa Patão) or sign players to an expansion roster prior to taking the field in 2026, but general manager Domenec Guasch noted a June 7 event that he expects news on that front soon.

“We have some exciting announcements in the coming weeks,” Guasch told reporters. “I would say on the head coach side, officially, and on the player side we also will have something in the coming weeks.”
