A man was arrested Friday in Duxbury and charged with allegedly brandishing a fake gun at a woman in a beach parking lot and threatening to shoot her.
Nicholas Haddad, 28, of Duxbury, is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and threat to commit a crime, police said.
Duxbury police said officers responded to the east lot at Duxbury Beach around 9:30 p.m. on Friday after a woman reported a man driving a black Nissan brandished a handgun at her and threatened to shoot her. At the scene, the officers stopped the vehicle described as the driver was allegedly attempting to leave the parking lot.
Police said the driver, later identified as Haddad, complied with the officers’ instructions and was detained.
“During the investigation, Mr. Haddad informed officers that he had a ‘BB Gun’ in the car,” Duxbury police said. “Officers discovered a replica Glock airsoft gun under the driver’s seat. The replica Glock was nearly indistinguishable from a real firearm and included Glock markings, a working slide, and a removable magazine.”
Police found a second replica Glock airsoft gun in the car, the department said.
Haddad allegedly told officers that the woman approached him and started asking him questions. He told police he became irritated and pointed the airsoft gun at her after the woman allegedly shined a flashlight in his face.
Haddad pleaded not guilty to the charges during his arraignment Monday, according to court filings. He was released on personal recognizance.
Nathaniel Amendola, an attorney representing Haddad, said in a statement Monday night his client “is innocent.”
Duxbury police shared a photo of the replica airsoft guns involved in the alleged confrontation and urged caution against the fake firearms.
“Incidents like this pose significant risks,” police said. “BB and airsoft guns that closely resemble a real firearm can escalate situations quickly. Had the airsoft fun been pointed at or near officers or another armed individual, the outcome could have been tragic.”
