Trevor Story had the Yankees’ number on Saturday night.

In the midst of a slump has lasted what, in Story’s own words, “feels like six months” long. It hasn’t quite been that long, but Story’s plate struggles have persisted since virtually the onset of the 2025 season.

Lately though, it feels like he’s started to turn the corner.

On Saturday, he was a force offensively, giving the Red Sox offense plenty of spark to outlast New York’s high powered offense for a 10-7 win. Story went 3 for 5 from the plate with five RBIs.

He got it going early. After surrendering three runs in the bottom of the second inning, Boston fought back immediately, rattling off five runs in the top of the third, thanks in large part to a 3-RBI double from Story with the bases loaded.

Story laced one hard down the third base line and into the corner to score all three runners with ease. Boston’s dugout reacted accordingly.

In the ninth inning after New York fought back within one run, Story delivered again. He drove in two more runs with a single, giving Boston more cushion to get through the bottom of the frame unscathed.

Story’s offensive stats for the season are unremarkable, and below average even in comparison to Boston’s already inconsistent season in 2025. He’s batting .222 with seven home runs and 31 RBIs. But, there could be light at the end of his tunnel.

Over the last 10 games, Story’s average is up to .257, and he’s hitting .353 in his last five — though his three run outburst significantly boosts that. Still, Story has put together more quality at bats over the last 10 games than he had previously.

Story had a no-doubter home run at the end of May, his longest as a member of the Red Sox (431 feet). Two days later he came inches away from a grand slam on a play that ultimately went down as a bases-clearing double.

Story has strung together a few solid outings in a short timeframe, and that could be enough to lift him out of his offensive slump. The sooner he returns to form, the better off the Red Sox are, as his defensive stability continues to be an asset even through the hitting struggles.

Saturday marked the second of six games in nine days between the Red Sox and Yankees. The rivals will finish off their weekend series at Yankee Stadium on Sunday night before running it back with three more games in Boston from June 13-15.
